No matter how good your plumbing is, clogs can still occur. Plungers should always be on hand in such cases. It is one of the fastest, easiest ways to unclog a toilet. A clog without a plunger is a scary situation to be in. There are several alternative methods for clearing the clog without one.

Wait until it passes

Sometimes all you have to do is wait. The only requirement is to be patient. Water in your toilet exerts pressure on the clog as it tries to leave. In time, the pressure might dislodge the clog. However, it might take as long as overnight. If you try flushing the toilet the next day and the clog is still there, you should stop the water flow immediately.

The Drain Cleaner

Draining cleaning chemicals isn't the best idea. The chemicals can be harmful. The chemicals can burn your skin or damage your plumbing. They are also not very eco-friendly. Try using a mixture of bleach and dish soap powder. To flush the toilet, mix two cups of bleach with one cup of powdered detergent and wait 30 minutes.

Plain Hot Water

All you need is hot water and a large bucket for this method. It's important to keep in mind that the water should be hot, but not boiling. A toilet bowl can crack when you pour boiling water into it, which would be even worse. Put the hot water in the toilet. As a result of the heat and movement of the water, the clog should be broken up and removed.

Dish Soap

If hot water alone isn't cutting it, you can try adding dish soap to it. The dish soap breaks down grease, dirt, and grime. Put about a cup of dish soap into the toilet bowl. Add hot water and let it sit for a while.

It may take about 30 minutes for it to work in some situations. However, depending on the type of clog, it might be necessary to let it sit overnight. Shampoo can be an excellent replacement for dish soap if you don't feel like running to the kitchen,

Epsom Salt

Whenever you have a clog at a friend's or family member's house, you may not want to tell them right away. You probably don't have the time to wait for hot water and soap to work in this case. Consider looking around for Epsom salt instead. If you find it, it's worth a shot, but not everyone has it. The salt creates a fizzy reaction when added to water, which should help break up the clog. If Epsom salts are not available, try baking soda.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are great ingredients that can do much more than just create a cool volcano. This mixture is extremely effective for cleaning a variety of surfaces. It can also help clear toilet clogs. Pour about a cup of baking soda into the toilet tank. As much as possible, spread it out over a large surface area and let it sink. Add about two cups of vinegar. Slowly pour the vinegar into the toilet in a circular motion. Fizzing will occur as the vinegar and baking soda begin to mix, which should then break up the clog. Let the mixture sit for about an hour before flushing. If it doesn't work the first time, use the same amounts of baking soda and vinegar, but let it sit overnight.

A Wire Hanger

If you have an extra wire hanger in the closet, you can create a makeshift toilet snake. Simply unfold the hanger and straighten it. You may wrap and tie a rag around the end you're going to use to unclog the toilet if it has a rough edge. The wire will not scratch the inside of the bowl or drain. Put the wrapped end down the drain and prod the clog until it is loose. You may have to use some force, but be careful not to cause damage.

A Toilet Brush

If you don't have any wire hangers, you could sacrifice your toilet brush. Make the brush move back and forth vigorously in the drain hole. Be careful not to force the brush. You don't want to damage the toilet. Be sure to wear rubber gloves and goggles before you attempt this method. Discard the toilet brush after using it and get a new one.
